The EU Drinking Water Directive has been binding since 12.01.2023. Since there is currently no method with which the total PFAS content can be measured, the sum of the PFAS (consisting of 20 PFAS analytes) must be determined. The maximum permissible value for the sum of PFAS is 0.10 µg/L.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has now set maximum levels for food of animal origin (e.g. meat, eggs, fish) for the first time. The maximum permissible values apply to PFOS, PFOA, PFNA and PFHxS (and the sum of the four) from 01.01.2023.
